If you have never eaten at the Colorado Street Grille in Whitney, you are in for a real treat. It is located in downtown Whitney just a short distance from the beautiful Lake Whitney. They serve everything from steaks to seafood to pastas, and are open Th-Sun only for lunch and dinner. Food is exquisite and fairly priced, with a somewhat of an eclectic, elegant but casual, atmosphere. It resides in a 100 year old renovated building. We so enjoyed it. gb, Dallas
We went to Canton, TX to the flea market this past weekend. We had a really great time. We stayed on "The Mountain" at a pie shop called "Crazy 'bout Cookin", and I highly recommend it. These 2 gals put on an entertaining show while they serve you up a piece of pie or sandwich and soup. They had over 18 kinds of pies this weekend. We had a complimentary breakfast and midnight snack before we hit the sack. They treat you like you are family and they have good food! We will certainly be going back to visit them! SA Amarillo, TX
I have found your info and brochures very impressive.
My family and I are heading your way in three weeks. I just wanted
to say that the info mailed to us [Instant
Action] helped plan our trip and we would
be lost without them. We decided to go to the small out of the
way
places first, and if we had time, would visit the bigger cities.
We have four weeks so hopefully we can see all that we want - Fort
Stockton, Alamo. Museums, fishing, swimming, hiking -
you have it all. Thank you again for the brochures, and we will
be contacting
you again. JL
It's not just a big hole in the ground or a small
town's tourist trap- Palo Duro Canyon in Canyon, Texas is
BEAUTIFUL, serene, & a great place to rediscover quiet in a backdrop
of God's amazing handiwork. You will see wild creatures in their
own habitat, and find stunning material for your photo albums.
Very inexpensive camping sites available, gift shop- GO see the
largest canyon second only to the Grand Canyon- up in the Texas
panhandle.
Traders
Village - Houston has more shopping and entertainment
than any other place in town. It's a giant flea market with
a festival atmosphere every weekend. If you can't find what
you're looking for at Traders Village, then you probably didn't
need it in the first place! The live bands and events are great
for the whole family. RSB Houston, TX
For a romantic and relaxing stay in Fredericksburg,
call 1st Class Bed and Breakfast Reservation Service. They offer
Day Spa options also.
If you are a water-skier of any standard
then check out Mike Munn's International water-ski school in Houston,
a great coach with a superb sheltered lake (www.munnski.com).
The finest road trip ever! Bandera,
Austin, and Luckenbach for Willie's picnic on July
4. Will DEFINITELY see you next year!
We recommend Fredericksburg Inn and
Suites, in Fredericksburg, Texas. Only one block from
town, with new clean rooms that back up to a creek. Our first
time eating German food was at the Der Lindenbaum restaurant
on Main Street. Excellent food and service. Also went to the Bush
Gallery and history walk. We had visited this a few years
ago and now there is much more to read and look at. Vanishing
Texas Cruise in Burnet also another must. Although the lake
was down and we were unable to go down river, it was still great.
During December through January, if you are lucky, you can see
the bald eagles that come in from Canada. HSC Ft.
Worth, 03/23/00.
If you are ever in Weatherford,
you must see the beautiful Chandor Gardens. I had the pleasure
of touring this lovely estate last spring. To my surprise, nestled
in the historic neighborhood of Weatherford, lies the most enchanting
gardens I have ever seen. There is a 40-foot man-made waterfall,
a number of water sculptures, including a pond with ming dragons
shooting water high into the air, and a maze of stone pathways.
The Chamber of Commerce was most helpful in helping me discover
this treasure. I highly recommend a stop at the gardens. H.M.
St. Louis, MO. 03/06/00.
"If you go to Irving,
be sure to see the Mustangs in Las
Colinas. The statues of 7 life-sized wild horses are breathtakingly
beautiful. It is easy to visualize these animals crossing a stream
in this exact spot in the 1800's. Also, the water taxi's are worth
the effort if you want to cruise the canal shopping area." -PG,
Detroit, Michigan
"Don't miss the Alamo presentation
at the IMAX theater in San Antonio. It really gives you
the incredible story behind the classic battle. See it BEFORE you
visit the mission which is just a block away." -MM, Naples,
Florida
I love Canyon Lake. This place is great!
Just to let you know that the trip I
took to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center was one of the most fun,
exciting, and educational experiences I've ever had! It happened
to be a photography workshop, and the photo opts were wonderful.
It also was perfect for a family trip - like going on a safari
without having to fly to Africa! -KM, McKinney, TX
Imagine my surprise when my Daughter-in-law
took me on an excursion to Salado, Texas and out of nowhere
we found such a delightful little town! We could have "shopped" all
night and the next day, too, if they had let us. The antiques were
wonderful, and we even had a great dinner! Can't wait to go back
on my next trip to Texas. -SGK, Birmingham, Alabama
Just to let all you Dallas Cowboy fans
know, I am from Kansas City and a huge Chiefs fan. I came down
for the Dallas/ Kansas City game last year and the stadium was
so impressive that I kept telling all my friends back home how
lucky the Cowboys are, and the support the fans gave them was amazing.
I salute you Irving.
-ME, Kansas City, MO
If you're looking for that quite relaxing

A trip to Texas is not complete without
a visit to the First Monday Trades days in Canton, Texas!
This activity has been active, very active, for well over one hundred
years! It is so named because it takes place on the FIRST MONDAY
of each and every month and the preceding Friday, Saturday and
Sunday. Canton is 65 miles East of Dallas on Interstate 20! "First
Monday" is famous all over the United States for its flea
market and diverse assortments of antiques, food concessions, and
activities. It now boasts another attraction called Wild Willy's
Mountain II, which is an old western town built into the side of
a mountain, with arts, crafts, antiques, restaurants, strolling
minstrels, and a featured, famous, country western entertainer
each month in its amphitheater (Willy Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker
have been recent artists). There is also the Old Mill Marketplace
featuring covered pavilions also housing a variety of crafts and
antiques, etc. RR, Canton, TX.
Kick Back While in Johnson City,
Texas. Its a feel good town where you can walk around and
see the sights. There is all the National Park and LBJ historical
things to see, even an old fashioned 4th of July parade, market
days on the 3 weekend every month and now LIVE theater...The
Wild Flower Theatre at the eclectic and historical old Feed Mill
Complex. There are 7 unique private guest house B&B's, plus
several mom and pop motels reminiscent of the 50's and the 50's
prices. Lots of good restaurants and very friendly folks. Good
shopping, lots of parking. Lights Spectacular month of December
and Great Turkey Escape Festival second week in in November.
Call 210-868-4548 for more information. CRS Johnson City Texas

I really enjoyed all the wonderful information
on Sulphur Springs, Texas. It
was very helpful to me, as I may be moving that way in the next
6 months and by what I saw I know I would enjoy living there. Thanks
for your web site. K. Ray
If you are a Rose fan, and are in Houston,
make the trek to Independence, near Brenham,
and see the gardens at the Antique Rose Emporium. Top Notch,
and all the roses you see you can buy at reasonable prices right
there. R Von Mayr, Princeton TX
Coming from OK going westbound on I-40?
Stop in Shamrock (yes- you see right and stay overnight
in Ye Old Home Place. Lovely old beautifully restored Bed & Breakfast
with lots of antiques and walls that should be able to talk (would
be great stories). Rates start at $30 single and $40 double. Anaruth
- the owner - is a great hostess. When you are in Shamrock, visit
the little museum! Recommended from Birgit - Native of Germany
- passing through in July and staying again there in October.
When traveling in Crosby County,
stop in the Smith House Bed and Breakfast in Crosbyton, Texas directly
behind the Dairy Queen. It was built in 1921 and has the most wonderful
atmosphere and hospitality as big as the whole state of Texas.
The food is wonderful. Each year in July you can attend a musical
drama north of Crosbyton called "God's Country",
full of history and very entertaining. LH, Euless, Texas
Don't forget about the beautiful Lake
Whitney. Approximately 30 miles north of Waco, this beautiful
lake is sure to be a fun getaway. DW
I love Old
Town Spring! It has hundreds of wonderful little shops
tucked away in a quaint little town. Everything from antiques
to wineries - there is something for everyone. So bring the
whole family and get ready for a very enjoyable day! MLU,
Houston, TX
I am from Massachusetts and went to
the Fort Worth area and south to the Dinosaur Park (Glen
Rose) to camp with my 8 year old son. We had such a great time
we are trying to plan on moving out there real soon!! For anyone
going out there, have fun and notice how nice and friendly everyone
is. L.B., Burlington, Mass
We are from the Jersey shore. Our first
visit to Galveston (1994) was a real shock. There was no
beach to speak of. But I must say they have come a long way improving
the area. But I find Texans haven't found out about some of the
improvements. Moody Gardens Hotel has a beach they hauled
in, and is all very nice. New places to eat. Not to mention Kemah.
(only a short drive away.) Galveston is a great place for
a getaway. I can't wait to return. MLH Plano, TX
New place called the Kemah Waterfront
Boardwalk. Very nice. The hotel the" Boardwalk Inn" was
great. We stayed there on a Sunday night ($145). Great view of
the gulf. Only thing wrong is they built it too small. It will
out grow the tourists fast. Why doesn't someone do this to Galveston? CH

Check out the Texas Sheepdog Association's
State Championship Finals in Muleshoe, Texas, November 18-21.
Lots of good dogs, lots of fun, and a few unbelievable sheep
dog wrecks! SP, Muleshoe, Texas
I just returned from a quick (and LONG)
trip out to Del Rio, Langtry and
back to Houston! A big TEXAS thank y'all to the Texas
Dept. of Transportation for preserving such a valuable, unique
and colorful part of Texas history in the Judge Roy Bean/THE
LAW WEST OF THE PECOS Visitor Center (Jersey "Lilly" Saloon, "courtroom",
opera house, etal). The Cactus Garden Interpretive Trail is
especially memorable, what a nice touch! Truly preserving and capturing
the old west, even more so for visitors outside of the "Republic
of Texas"! As a transplanted "wannabe Texan", I
am even more excited to know these relics are still standing for
all to treasure and learn a bit of Texas history from! Hats off
the the Texas Dept. of Transportation! I can't wait to get back,
and to show off another special spot in the Lone Star State! Will
tell everybody about it! DT, Richmond, Texas
The next time you are in Dallas,
check out Americus on Preston! The American Regional cuisine
has a southern twist and is consistently delicious and beautifully
presented. The menus are seasonal, as are the specials. There is
an extensive wine list, as well as a good selection of single malt
scotches and small batch bourbons. It's been decorated to be comfortably
elegant and has a romantic semi-private dining area. Best of all,
it's QUIET -- so you can converse with a business client or whisper
to a loved one. Located at 19009 Preston Road (between Frankford
and Plano Parkway) in far North Dallas. (972) 381-0028. Beth,
Fairview, TX
Wings Over Houston Air Show.
The planes fly like you will never see again. They have a WWII
reenactment of Pearl Harbor with WWII planes from Lone Star
Flight Museum in Galveston. Great way to spend a day with the
family (all ages). There is something there for everyone. BE
Plano Texas
A great campground in Del
Rio is the American Campground. I stayed there
for a week and fished on Lake Amistad, saw Judge Roy Bean's
digs, and got some good deals in Mexico. Highly recommended. RAM,
Ironton, Ohio
A trip to Fredericksburg is always
a great one. One of our trips was to see the Admiral Nimitz
Museum. Wow!! If you are interested in WWII, this is the place
to go. And they opened the Bush Gallery last June, which
we are planning to visit in March. Also an overnight stay in Kerrville at
the Inn of the Hills. If you get a room in the tower, you will
be over-looking the Guadalupe River. And down below there is a
open air bar that is playing Country and Western music. Makes for
a nice night. RB Elk City, Ok.
