Saddle up for a weekend of cowboy culture at the 2024 Winnsboro Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering on September 27 and 28. Hosted by Winnsboro Center for the Arts on The Bowery in downtown Winnsboro, this event celebrates the spirit of the Old West with performances by 10 acclaimed poets and musicians. Join us for an unforgettable experience!
Friday, September 27:
1:30 p.m.: Dive into "Cowboy Culture Conversations" with Grammy Award-winner “American Songster” Dom Flemons and songster Andy Hedges as they bring to life the stories of Black cowboys through poetry and song.
4 p.m.: Enjoy "Cowboy and Western Swing Music" with Kristyn Harris and Miss Devon and the Outlaw for an afternoon of cowboy and western swing tunes.
7p.m.: Embark on a cowboy music journey during the "Three Texans Evening Concert" featuring three Texas artists: Mike Blakely, Kristyn Harris and Andy Wilkinson.
Saturday, September 28, at 10 a.m. and 11: a.m.:
Free Regional Showcases including four regional poets and musicians during each showcase.
1:30 p.m.: Join "Cowboy Culture Conversations" led by cowboy poet Joel Nelson and storyteller Andy Hedges as they share tales of cowboy poetry around the campfire.
4 p.m.: Experience "Cowboy Poetry – by Folks that Ride Horses" with poets Jay Snider, Teresa Burleson and Joel Nelson, who bring their saddle-tested verses to the stage.
7 p.m.: Don't miss "Carnegie Hall Cowboys on the Bowery Stage," featuring Andy Hedges, Dom Flemons and Pipp Gillette in a spectacular performance inspired by Hedges’ sold-out Carnegie Hall show.
In addition to the weekend performances, on Saturday there are fun, free activities for the whole family. Activities include a Chuck Wagon with fixins such as cornbread, beans and cobbler; an East Texas Square Dance performance from 12 to 1 p.m.; mule carriage rides; cornhole and horseshoe games; Drover’s campsite; and activities for kids such as face-painting, crafts, corn husk doll-making, Smarty Roping and more.
