If you ask anyone who has ever driven through Lampasas to describe it, they will most likely say, "Oh, that's the pretty little place with the beautiful creek and park that wends its way through town". That is certainly true! However, Lampasas is so much more. It's rich history includes one of the five oldest courthouses in Texas, seven natural Sulphur springs that were the foundation of the community, and an honest-to-goodness old west story about the shoot-out between the feuding Higgins and Horrells.
Lampasas has a fine 18-hole golf course located on Sulphur Creek in Hancock Springs Park, beautiful art work in the form of sculptures in Campbell Park, which is also the site of Hanna Springs and fabulous, colorful murals scattered throughout Historic Downtown. Lampasas is proud to claim one of only a few remaining free flow swimming pools in Texas. As featured in Texas Monthly magazine, the pool temperature remains at 72 degrees year-round. Cooper Springs will soon be the home of a 19- acre walking trail and nature park .
If you crave a little more excitement, year-round events include Spring Ho, the Herb and Art Fest, the Quilt Show, the Indian Artifacts Show, the Classic Car Show, the Riata Rodeo and the Carol of Lights at Christmas, just to name a few.
Lampasas offers wonderful restaurants featuring Italian, German and Mexican cuisine, as well as just plain old lip-smackin', down home cooking, and if you're into vino, there are three vineyards within 20 miles where you can sample and buy superb local wines.
There is so much more to see and hear about Lampasas. So, come on. We're here. We're ready. We're waiting for you!
