Did you know we are the Home of the World’s First Rodeo, the Sweet Pecos Cantaloupe, the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame, a town created by the railroad and the original cattle drives that crossed the Pecos River in the 1880’s? Our rich Texas heritage makes an interesting and fun stop on your “trail” when traveling this part of the state.
Pecos is conveniently located on I-20, in the heart of Far West Texas. Stop in to our Visitor Center (opening in spring 2013), a Depot originally brought to Pecos with the railroad in 1881, or our Chamber of Commerce. The Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame exhibits will be housed there, and you will get all the information you need to experience why “Pecos is Hot”. If you are planning a special event – contact our CVB for ideas!
Mark your calendar for the West of the Pecos Rodeo each summer, and throughout the year enjoy the historic West of the Pecos Museum and Outdoor Exhibits. March will host the Texas Proud in Pecos celebration for Texas Independence, and Night in Old Pecos is a western celebration in the historic downtown area of Pecos in July each year. We celebrate the harvest of the Sweet Pecos Cantaloupe with a Decorating contest and a Food Show – don’t miss that yummy event each summer!
Pecos loves a parade and hometown style fiestas and opportunities for family fun - just check the Calendar on our website for most events. We offer unstructured fun too, like our historic cemeteries, local area parks, a golf course, and our neighbor the Balmorhea State Park for fun and adventure; great bird watching during spring and fall migration, and wildlife viewing and hunting is available in our area. Forbes magazine listed Pecos as one of the “fastest growing small towns in America” in 2012 because of our booming businesses, and our increased opportunities for activities and amenities.
We bet it has been awhile since your last stop here . . . we suggest you get off the highway and visit a spell - place Pecos on your list of Hot spots to visit in Far West Texas!
