Displays of photographs, maps, oral history tapes, microfilm, artwork, and various artifacts from the area are housed within the historic 1897 Brazoria County courthouse. The museum hosts concerts and other events throughout the year, as well.

Brazosport Museum of Natural Science – The Center for the Arts & Sciences
The Brazosport Museum of Natural Science in Clute has it all. A vast natural science museum with fossil and archaeological exhibits, a small planetarium, an art gallery, and two performing arts theaters. With so much to see, it’s no wonder Frommer’s named it as one of the 10 best museums in Texas.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge
Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge covers more than 44,000 acres of freshwater sloughs and coastal prairies just a few miles northeast of Clute. The refuge is a critical nesting spot for numerous bird species, as well as a permanent home to many types of fish and mammals, such as bobcats, coyotes, otters, and raccoons. There are several walking and driving trails that wind throughout the park, as well as various fishing areas.

Lake Jackson Historical Museum
Discover the fascinating history of Lake Jackson at the Lake Jackson Historical Museum. With its interactive exhibits and displays of artifacts, the museum tells the town’s story from the prehistoric era to the founding of modern Lake Jackson. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday and admission is free to the public.

Scuba diving in Texas? Yes, it’s very much a real thing at the 55-acre Mammoth Lake Waterpark, the largest scuba diving-specific lake in the United States. Below the surface of the water, you’ll explore a sunken C-130 cargo plane, various boats, and even remnants of the former AstroWorld. A full-service scuba shop with a complete selection of rental gear is available. Courses are also offered at Mammoth Lake Waterpark, which is a Professional Association of Diving Instructors-certified facility. The lake offers ample space for swimming, paddling, and camping, and is a popular location for triathlon training.

San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge
The San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge is a vital natural habitat for more than 320 bird species that call the area home for all or part of the year. More than 54,000 acres of pristine marshlands and coastal woodlands comprise the refuge, which is home of the largest live oak tree in Texas. There are several hiking and driving trails ideal for experiencing the refuge for yourself, as well as piers for fishing and designated waterfowl hunting areas. The refuge, located about 20 miles southwest of Clute, is open 365 days a year.

Sea Center Texas
Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson is a marine aquarium, fish hatchery, and nature center that teaches visitors about the wildlife that inhabits the coastal areas of Texas. Various interpretive displays, aquariums featuring the distinct habitats of the region, and a “touch tank” comprise the visitor experience at the Sea Center. Admission is free, and the sea center is closed on Mondays and major holidays.
