Grand Prairie

Family attractions, friendly faces, an affordable place to live, relaxation and a place to succeed in business—you’ll find it all in Grand Prairie. Conveniently located between Dallas and Fort Worth, the heart of the city sits 15 minutes from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and all the highlights of the Metroplex. In Grand Prairie, you’ll find a fun family destination that Money magazine recently named one of the best cities in Texas. Offering fantastic shopping, exciting outdoor activities, and world-class entertainment, Grand Prairie is a one-of-a-kind Texas town that’s well worth a visit.

The land that makes up Grand Prairie was originally known as “Dechman” for settler Alexander Macrae Dechman. Confusion arose when the T&P Railroad, which Dechman helped bring to town in the 1870’s in exchange for right-of-way through his property, dubbed the city “Grand Prairie” as a result of maps depicting the area as the “grand prairie” of Texas. Since then, the town has continued to evolve into what it is today: one of the most vibrant cities in North Texas.

One of the best parks in Grand Prairie bears the name of two of town’s earliest settlers, brothers Marion and James Loyd. The home they built when they moved from Dallas to raise livestock is still standing in Loyd Park, which features campsites, cabins, swimming, water skiing and a brand-new 18-room lodge with group meeting space, plus a full kitchen at Joe Pool Lake. Lynn Creek Park, also lake-adjacent, is a favorite outdoor spot year-round, and offers boat ramps, a full-service marina, boat rentals, a fishing pier, restaurant and club on the water, plus beaches, group picnic sites and a playground and is home to the famous month-long Prairie Lights , 4 million lights holiday drive-thru display. Thoroughbred horses are the main draw at Lone Star Park, the city’s race track and home to the Lone Star Music Series.

Shoppers will find plenty of places to snag a great deal on everything from name-brand fashion to antiques and Eastern goods. The Grand Prairie Premium Outlets include more than 100 stores with daily discounts on designer wear. At Traders Village, “the world’s largest flea market,” you could take home an ATV, a piece of African art, and a slot machine, all from one outing. For something truly unique, head to the Hong Kong Market in Asia Times Square to discover new food or home decor unlike anything you’ve seen before.

In addition to all the fun to be had at the city’s lovely parks and on the carnival rides at Traders Village, kids will love a trip to the delightfully weird Louis Tussaud's Palace of Wax & Ripley's Believe It Or Not! During baseball season, catch a home game at Grand Prairie’s minor league baseball team, the Grand Prairie AirHogs at The Ballpark at Grand Prairie, which has a playground area and even a pool. It’s all waiting for you right here in Grand Prairie, a captivating town in the DFW Area with an identity all its own.
