Documentary Screening: War Movie: The America Battle in Cinema

We welcome you to attend a FREE documentary screening at the Historic Nimitz Ballroom, 340 E. Main St. Following the screening, attendees will have a chance to speak with director, Steven Summers, for a Q&A. Two showings will be offered, 1 pm and 3 pm. This screening will focus on Episode 2: The “Good” War: 1939-1949. The Second World War. The power of cinematic propaganda and how film began to define the memory of war for Americans. Sergent York (1941) Bataan (1943), Casablanca (1942), A Walk in the Sun (1945) and Twelve O’clock High (1949) War Movie: The American Battle in Cinema. This film shows the cinematic depictions of military conflict which have been common since the first crank of a shutter. From early films like The Birth of a Nation to recent entries The Hurt Locker and Dunkirk, the atrocities of war have never strayed far from the silver screen. Whether praised by critics or criticized by veterans who were there, war films play an integral part of our cultural understanding.
