At the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the buck doesn’t stop here, it starts! The Fort Worth facility is open to the public for free tours, during which you’ll see billions of dollars’ worth of both real and retired U.S. currency.
Learn the history of the printing process, which you might be surprised to discover has not changed dramatically since the mid-1800s.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing Hours
Tuesday through Friday: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Last tours begin at 4:30 PM)
The Bureau is closed Mondays, weekends, federal holidays, and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Admission and parking are free. Reservations are not required, although groups of 10 or more are advised to call the tour scheduler in advance at (817) 231-4000 or toll-free at (866) 865-1194.
Bureau of Engraving and Printing Special Events
During spring break in mid-March and in late July, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing hosts employee craftsmanship demonstrations. These special events feature hands-on activities that are fun for the entire family. Programming during these events includes:
- Intaglio engraving and plate “growing”
- Refurbished spider press printing
- Damaged note reconstruction
- Plate-making for offset printing
