Explore the Buckhorn Museum

The Buckhorn Museum features wildlife from around the world, including fish from the seven seas, animals from every continent, and unusual animal oddities collected over more than 100 years. Its exhibit halls showcase more than 520 species of wildlife, many of which are world-record specimens.

The Buckhorn's most famous exhibit is the legendary "78 Point Buck," purchased by founder Albert Friedrich for just $100 in 1890. Other remarkable displays include a world-record 1,056-pound black marlin and a 10,000-year-old prehistoric Irish elk.

A San Antonio Tradition Since 1881

In 1881, 17-year-old Albert Friedrich, a bartender and bellhop at San Antonio's Southern Hotel on Main Plaza, opened his own saloon across the street. What began as a neighborhood watering hole eventually grew into one of San Antonio's most iconic attractions, welcoming visitors from around the world for well over a century.

Today, the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum continues to preserve Friedrich's legacy. Along with the historic saloon, visitors can explore the Buckhorn Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum, making it one of downtown San Antonio's most unique attractions for generations of Texans and travelers alike.
