ASU Planetarium
Angelo State University’s newly renovated planetarium opens its doors to the public for shows in its tilted dome theater with HD digital projector capable of projecting more than half a billion stars. Previous shows include “Solar Superstorms,” detailing the solar tornadoes and coronal mass ejections of the sun, and “Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West.” Programs are available while ASU classes are in session.

Chicken Farm Art Center
Named for the renovated farm buildings it calls home, the Chicken Farm Art Center is an eclectic community of local artists and an awesome place to spend an afternoon browsing unique artwork. With more than 15 studios represented at any given time, you’ll see painstakingly crafted glassworks, metal works, pottery, woodworks, and much more. Stop by on First Saturdays for food, live music, kids’ activities, demonstrations, and as many as 30 vendor booths.

Civic League Park
This San Angelo park is the home of the famous International Waterlily Collection, starring "Texas Dawn" as the Official Water Lily of the State of Texas. Catch the beautiful flowers in bloom every year from April to October. Other amenities include a nature trail, artwork, rose garden, and pavilion.

Fort Concho
What was once a vital force in protecting settlers of the San Angelo area is now a national historic landmark and museum. Built in 1867, Fort Concho gives visitors a look inside 23 original and restored structures, including the enlisted men’s barracks, the hospital, and officer’s row. During weekends and special events, you can catch reenactors firing cannons, cavalry competitions, old-fashioned baseball, and more.

Historic Murals of San Angelo
Since 2002, San Angelo has been graced by these moving murals that depict important events, eras, and people in the city of San Angelo and the Concho River region. Now totaling 12 murals, you’ll find homages to local author Elmer Kelton, the old Santa Fe Depot, the stagecoaches that brought settlers to San Angelo, and more.

Miss Hattie’s Bordello Museum
Now open strictly for educational purposes, the famous Miss Hattie’s is housed in the same 1896 building where an enterprising divorcee created a booming business above her ex-husband’s saloon. Inside you’ll find lots of original bordello accoutrements, with each room telling the story of the women who lived (and worked) there. Group and private tours are available in the afternoon, Tuesday through Saturday.

San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts
The award-winning facility is housed in a gorgeous building with three spacious galleries and a beautiful rooftop view of the city, plus a research library, gift shop, and education wing. Pottery and sculpture pieces are the standout exhibits, but artwork runs the gamut from oil paintings to glassworks and Martelé silver.

San Angelo Nature Center
Bobcats, skunks, turtles, lizards, snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, and even a porcupine await you at the San Angelo Nature Center. The small animal sanctuary shines with the help of a friendly, knowledgeable staff who can give you an on-site “interpretive” tour while regaling you with interesting facts, or an off-site tour where they bring the animals to you.

San Angelo State Park
Some of the best outdoor fun in town can be had at San Angelo State Park. Fishing, swimming, picnicking, and camping are all popular activities, plus there is a three-level orienteering course and a wildlife observation area. If you have access to a horse, the park offers 50 miles of equestrian trails, or you can hike or mountain-bike while you enjoy the beautiful and natural surroundings.

San Angelo Visitor Center
One of San Angelo’s top attractions is also one of its most welcoming. The visitor center boasts charming scenery that includes a waterfall, views of the River Walk, statues, manicured grounds, elegant stonework, and art installations. The helpful staff inside will be happy to point you in the right direction to all San Angelo’s great attractions.

The Cactus Hotel
A San Angelo landmark for almost 90 years, the Cactus Hotel is the tallest - and by popular opinion, the prettiest - building in San Angelo. An elegant ballroom and mezzanine make it a favorite wedding destination in town, with ceremonies also held in the “Top of the Cactus” or even the lobby by the Grand Staircase. Though it no longer functions as an overnight hotel, swing by to take in this piece of local history, browse the shops and art galleries, and have a meal in the Mesquite Bean Cafe located inside.

Vino Dipinte Art Gallery
You bring the wine, they’ll bring the paint at Vino Dipinte Art Gallery. The downtown location hosts paint-and-sip events that are a big hit with couples and ladies’ nights, where the in-house artists guide you through the creation of your own masterpiece as you enjoy an adult beverage and conversation with your fellow painters. You can also purchase original works from local artists and catch special events and art shows.
