Chautauqua Auditorium
Chautauqua Auditorium is a Waxahachie cultural institution. This 2,500-seat entertainment venue, built in 1902 and restored in the mid-1970’s, is one of only a handful of octagonal auditoriums in the country. Nowadays, the auditorium hosts a variety of events, including educational seminars and plays by the Waxahachie Community Theatre.

Ellis County Courthouse
With its eye-catching columns, arches, rounded towers, and clock tower, it’s no wonder the Ellis County Courthouse is considered one of the prettiest buildings in Texas. Built with pink granite and sandstone in 1895, the courthouse is a fine example of the architectural flair common to the Richardsonian Romanesque style.

Ellis County Museum
Discover the fascinating history of this part of the Lone Star State at the Ellis County Museum, located on the southeastern side of the downtown square. Within the museum, housed in a structure built in 1889, you’ll find a variety of exhibits outlining the county’s history and heritage. The museum is open Monday through Saturday during standard business hours.

Lake Waxahachie
Lake Waxahachie is a scenic recreational lake that provides some of the best fishing in North Texas. Catfish, largemouth bass, white bass, and crappie are all abundant here. There are three public access areas to the lake, all of which have boat ramps and parking areas.

Sims Library
In a town full of captivating buildings, Sims Library stands out. The stately white stone pillars and ornate trim of the building, one of the first public libraries in Texas, make it an excellent example of the neoclassical style of architecture. Step inside and browse the library’s collection of historic and contemporary books, and gaze at the many pieces of furniture that are nearly 100 years old. The library is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail
Get some exercise on the Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail, a curvy four-mile jogging and biking trail that meanders along a slow-flowing creek and through scenic woods. The trail begins in Getzendaner Park and ends in Lions Park on the south side of town.

Waxahachie Community Theatre
