Surfside Marathon
Tie on your running shoes and get ready for a one-of-a-kind marathon. Whether you choose the full or half marathon, your feet will never hit pavement as both courses follow the beautiful stretch of sand between Surfside Beach and San Luis Pass. The marathon is held in early February, and registration is available on the event’s website.

Texas Joy Ride & Rod Run
A car show, arts and crafts, raffles, and door prizes are all part of the fun at this family-friendly event held at Freeport Municipal Park in late March.

Migration Celebration
Birding season in the Brazosport Area truly kicks off in the spring, when thousands of birds migrate to the area. This is celebrated by the Migration Celebration, which includes tours by expert naturalists of the San Bernard Wildlife Refuge, as well as archery, fishing, and other activities for children.

Taste of the Town

The Great Texas Mosquito Festival
With tons of live music, all the sights and sounds of the carnival, a barbecue and fajita cook-off, and a washer pitching tournament, it may be better to ask what isn’t going on at The Great Texas Mosquito Festival. Taking place in Clute over three days in late July, this is one of the biggest (and quirkiest) events in Texas.

Fishing Fiesta
Grab your fishing rods and head on down to Freeport for the Fishing Fiesta. Based around a fishing contest, there’s also a carnival, barbecue cook-off, coastal expo, and many more events. There’s even a fishing tournament for the youngsters, with the winners receiving a trophy and shiny new rod and reel.

Summertime Blues Festival
For three days in early September, some of the hottest blues bands around head to Freeport for the Summertime Blues Festival. Along with the fantastic music, check out the watermelon seed spitting contest, car show, biker games, facial hair contest, and arm wrestling competition.
