Eckert James River Bat Cave Preserve
Holy bat cave! Between mid-May and October, watch millions of Mexican Free-tail bats emerge from the protected Eckert James River Bat Cave each night to hunt for insects. Owned by the Nature Conservancy, the cave is a bat nursery where young are born annually. Watching the fly out is a spectacular sight.

Round Up Rodeo, Parade and Festival
This is a charming tradition that started in the sixties in downtown Mason. Every second weekend in July, the town hosts a second-to-none gathering complete with a rodeo at Fort Mason Community Park and a family friendly festival that visitors look forward to all year. Mason Art & Wine Festival
Stroll along the Mason Town Square for the bi-annual Mason Art & Wine Festival featuring fine art made by local artisans, wine produced by Hill Country winemakers, music and more. The event is held in perfect, balmy weather in April and October, and it celebrates the deep bench of both artists and winemakers the area is known for. Light up our Town
At this annual Christmas kick-off event, see the streets and sights of Mason illuminated with holiday lights and ready to welcome Santa—who shows up on a fire truck with candy! The gathering includes cookies and hot chocolate, the Mason County Round-Up Queen’s Court, ornament making, train rides on the courthouse lawn, a family movie and a luminaria trail.
