Every June, the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council sponsors the Children's Art & Literacy Festival (CALF) at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature. It’s an extended weekend full of activities that attract families, illustrators, writers, and readers from near and far to this West Texas city located on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Midland.

Children's Art & Literacy Festival Hours & Schedule

The Children's Art & Literacy Festival is held the first Thursday, Friday, and Saturday each June throughout the “Storybook Capital of America’s” downtown cultural district. Thursday festivities begin with a costume contest, parade, and a storybook sculpture unveiling in the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden, while Friday and Saturday features readings of the children’s books, arts and crafts, train rides, magicians, balloon sculptors, and a musical instrument petting zoo. Children's Art & Literacy Festival Ticket Prices

  • Adults (13+): $13
  • Children (2 - 12 years): $8
  • Children (0 - 1): Free

Registration opens in February. After May 15, Children's Art & Literacy Festival ticket prices go up to $16 for adults and $11 for children.
