Art Museum of Southeast Texas Events
February, May, August & October
Family Arts Day
Held on Saturday once each quarter, Family Arts Days are free, open-to-the-public events when kids and parents enjoy refreshments, face-painting, and special hands-on activities that vary based on the season and current exhibitions. Past events have included Halloween’s “Eat A Bug” Day, “Fun in the Mud” Day that coincided with a ceramics exhibition, and cactus-painting and two-step lessons during the run of a Southwestern-themed exhibit.
February
Mardi pArty
A new addition to the museum’s calendar, this Mardi Gras soiree features outstanding Cajun cuisine, an open bar, live music, live and silent auctions, giveaways and party favors, and more. The evening begins with a cocktail hour and continues on with dinner and dancing.
Protégé Competition and Exhibition
For more than 30 years, the protégé program has encouraged 12th-grade students to discover their inner artist. In February, the museum hosts a reception and awards ceremony, and debuts students’ works in a month-long AMSET exhibit. Afterward, the work will be displayed on a tour of schools around the region.
March
Go for the Gold
This annual fundraiser in March is one of the museum’s most popular get-togethers of the year, thanks in part to attendees’ chance to win up to $10,000 in gold in the event’s exciting reverse drawing. Dinner and cocktails round out the festive evening.
June - July
Summer ArtVentures Creative Kids Camp
From mid-June to mid-July, kids ages five to 15 can dive into art at one of AMSET’s popular ArtVentures camps, with world-class arts education at the hands of professional artists. Individual camps run half a day for a week and bear names like “Mixed Media Madness,” “Batty About Bookmaking,” “Creative Clay,” and “Paper News and Balloons.”
December
Gingerbread House Workshop and Holiday Tree Lighting
AMSET kicks off each holiday season with the always-cheery Gingerbread House Workshop in early December, during which freshly made gingerbread serve as the star building material. A few days later, head back to the AMSET grounds in the evening for the annual tree-lighting ceremony, with ornament-making and visits with Santa.
Hours and events are subject to change. Please check the Art Museum of Southeast Texas’ website for the most up-to-date information before visiting.
