Conroe

A gorgeous lake and acres of scenic pine and hardwood forests makes Conroe the place to be for anyone who loves spending time outside.

The town’s main attraction is the 22,000-acre Lake Conroe, which offers an idyllic setting for those who enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating. Slightly farther to the north, the expansive Sam Houston National Forest affords a peaceful setting for hikers and bikers to experience the sights and sounds of the Texas Piney Woods.

Although Conroe is a fine place to be for the great outdoors, that’s not all the town is about. Spend any time here and you’ll discover a small town with big city appeal.

Browse quirky shops and art galleries, dine at unique restaurants and cafes, and attend a play at either of Conroe’s two historic theaters. All of this can be experienced within an hour’s drive from downtown Houston, making Conroe an attractive weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

There’s so much to see and do in Conroe that you can make any trip there truly your own. All of the swimming, kayaking, and fishing you can do at Lake Conroe could keep you busy for the entirety of your trip, but there are other options. Conroe is home to numerous public and semi-private golf courses that you can conquer during your time in town. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take on the 129-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail in Sam Houston National Forest, the longest continuous trail in Texas.

There are two craft breweries in Conroe, B-52 Brewing Company and Southern Star Brewing, that you can visit. For a bit of culture, stop by the Campobella Bronze Fine Art Studio and Gallery to see the works of local artist Craig Campobella, catch a show at either the Owen Theatre or the Crighton Theatre, or watch a local band perform at the Red Brick Tavern or The Corner Pub. Many of the interesting restaurants, shops, and arts venues are located in Historic Downtown Conroe, a district surrounding the Montgomery County Courthouse square.

All of this is just a taste of the fun you can have in Conroe. Plan your next trip here and you’ll see why this is a great place to visit.
