Shop Historic Main Street

Shopping is one of the primary reasons that visitors come to Fredericksburg. You'll find stores offering a wide variety of antiques and home décor as well as fashion ranging from vintage to upscale contemporary, plus handmade jewelry, unique gifts and much more.

Main Street is the center of the action in Fredericksburg, where you can find more than 150 shops, boutiques and art galleries as well as dozens of restaurants, wine tasting rooms, a brewpub, two museums & more in a walkable setting.

Franchises and chain stores are not allowed in the National Historic District (which runs along Main Street) so rest assured that your Fredericksburg shopping experience will be unique and offer some great locally made products.

Enjoy Texas Wine Country

Surrounded by more than 60 award-winning wineries, Fredericksburg sits in the heart of Texas Wine Country.

You can sample the wide variety of varietals that the Lone Star State offers in picturesque vineyards or boutique tasting rooms.

In addition to vineyards along the rural countryside, Fredericksburg is also home to an urban wine trail featuring a dozen wine tasting rooms in the walkable downtown historic district.

Not sure where to start? Book a wine tour with any of the local wine tour companies and leave the planning to the pros.

Immerse Yourself in History

Fredericksburg is steeped in history, with more than 700 historically significant structures preserved in the National Historic District as well as Pioneer Museum, which provides a glimpse of early life in Fredericksburg. The centerpiece of the community, the Vereins Kirche, located at Marktplatz, was fully renovated and reopened to the public in June 2020.

The Smithsonian-Affiliated National Museum of the Pacific War, dedicated to all who served in the Pacific during World War II, also pays homage to hometown hero Navy Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, with six acres of grounds featuring artifacts, memorials and more.

In nearby Stonewall, Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park are the premier locations to experience the environment that shaped the character, public policy and continuing legacy of the 36th president of the United States. The park, comprising approximately 675 acres, provides a variety of opportunities to experience the local and regional context that greatly influenced the last frontier president.

Experience Enchanted Rock

The Texas Hill Country is famous for its scenic beauty, and there aren't many places that typify this better than Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. The crux of the park is the 425-foot-tall dome of pink granite that towers over the live oak trees, ponds, and streams at its base. Although you can get a good look at Enchanted Rock from one of the various hiking trails, you can't leave without ascending the Summit Trail to the top of the dome. From the top, you'll be treated to stunning views of miles of gorgeous Texas Hill Country terrain.

Although the views are more than worth the trip, they aren't the only thing to enjoy while you're at the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. During the day, you can take some great photos, go rock climbing, and enjoy wildlife viewing. Stay until after the sun sets and you'll be rewarded with some of the best stargazing in Texas. In fact, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area was designated as an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association. If you enjoy being outdoors and you want to experience one of Texas' most scenic places, you owe yourself a trip to Enchanted Rock.

Tour Texas Tip: Get your park admission pass online to guarantee entry to the Enchanted Rock state Natural Area as it temporarily closes with it reaches capacity.
