Pro Sports are Back in Season

Summer is prime sports season, especially as late spring marks the beginning of professional baseball and soccer in Frisco. While you can watch a live baseball game just about anywhere, there aren’t many places you can do so as you float in a lazy river. That’s all part of the fun at Riders Field, home of the Texas Rangers’ AA affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders. Settle into your seats in the lower seating bowl for a great view of the field or lay out on the grassy lawn behind the outfield. Catch any game and you might see a future MLB star, as the RoughRiders have fielded the likes of five-time all-star Adrian Gonzalez and 2020 Golden Glove winner Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

The other show in town, FC Dallas, is a big-time soccer team with a long and storied past. Featuring an international cast of both developing and established players, FCD is a perennial playoff contender who won the Western Conference and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in 2016. Along with its current squad, FC Dallas has a reputation for fostering up-and-coming talent, with its academy having produced players like Juventus F.C. midfielder Weston McKennie.

The patio even has bar access, so you can order a cocktail, beer, or glass of wine on tap without having to step foot inside.

To sink your teeth into the creations of some of DFW’s favorite food trucks, head to the Frisco Rail Yard. Find your dish of choice and order a draught beer or a cocktail from the on-site bar, then settle into one of the many picnic tables spread throughout the park. Meanwhile, the spacious patio at Mash’d sets the stage for you to appreciate the upbeat atmosphere as you sip on cocktails made with moonshines or high-end spirits. The food menu here is eclectic, ranging from flavorful salads to burgers, tacos, and pizzas crafted with house-made dough. Speaking of pizzas, the cozy patio at Pizzeria Testa is just the place to enjoy traditional red and white pies topped with ingredients like spianata, mozzarella di bufala, and calabrese sausage.

Frisco is Full of Unique Family-Friendly Attractions

Wander into a video gamer’s paradise, get an up-close look at vintage trains, and visit a city run by kids. These are some of the adventures that await at Frisco’s many family-friendly attractions. Explore the history, and development, of gaming consoles at the National Videogame Museum (NVM). The museum houses more than 100,000 artifacts , including the 1972 Magnavox Odyssey, the very first of its kind. Much more than a museum, NVM is also a retro arcade. Feel like a kid again as you spend the day playing your old favorites.

If you, or any of your kids, are train enthusiasts, a stop by the Museum of the American Railroad is a must. Embark on a walking tour to see the museum’s collection of rolling stock and hear all about the history and technology of railroading from your guide. Then check out TrainTopia, a miniature world showcasing the topography of Arizona, New Mexico, and even all the way to northeast Texas that includes running model trains. To give your youngsters the feeling of being a grownup, head to KidZania. This immersive city allows kids to earn, spend, and invest currency (called kidZos), all while learning about various professions and cooperating with others their age.

Finally, inspire your child’s inner artist as you admire the more than 40 works at the Texas Sculpture Garden. You can visit the vast outdoor exhibit from dawn to dusk, while the indoor exhibits are open on weekdays.
