5 Reasons Frisco is your Sublime Summer Getaway

By James Waterson

Chic hotels with inviting swimming pools? Check. Amazing cuisine from around the globe? You bet. Attractions that offer fun for the whole family? Absolutely. If this sounds like everything you’re looking for in a summer vacation, find your way to Frisco. Located just north of Dallas, The City that Plays has something for everyone, from sports fans and foodies to outdoorsy folks and youngsters. Read on to see why Frisco is the perfect summer destination, then plan your visit here.

Not One, But Two Resorts for Luxury and Fun

There’s nothing better than diving into a delightfully cool swimming pool on a hot summer’s day. The aquatic oasis at The Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa is a destination all its own. The lagoon-style pool is the kind of place you can hang out all afternoon. Splash away in the water before unwinding in your own luxurious cabana. Soar down an exhilarating water slide and let your kids play on the toddler-friendly splash pad. Their outdoor pool bar serves up ice-cold cocktails and light poolside bites; just what you need when you’re relishing the summer swelter.

Of course, that’s not all you can do here. Test out your swing at the Topgolf Swing Suite or go to the Activity Lawn, home to life-size Jenga and Connect Four games, cornhole boards, and a putting green.

The newest resort open in Frisco is the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, with 500 guest rooms and suites, 10 four-bedroom ranch houses, four pools, including an adults-only rooftop infinity pool, a full-service Mokara Spa and dining options from steak to smoothies.

Golf newbies and experienced players can find their speed with two 18-hole championship golf courses, Fields Ranch East and Fields Ranch, The Swing lighted 10-hole, par-3 short course, The Dance Floor 2-acre putting course, live hitting bays, indoor simulators, and more.

Frisco is full of an array of places to stay, including such hotels as the Hyatt Regency FriscoOmni Frisco Hotel, and the new HALL Park Hotel. Check out all your options here.

Pro Sports are Back in Season

Summer is prime sports season, especially as late spring marks the beginning of professional baseball and soccer in Frisco. While you can watch a live baseball game just about anywhere, there aren’t many places you can do so as you float in a lazy river. That’s all part of the fun at Riders Field, home of the Texas Rangers’ AA affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders. Settle into your seats in the lower seating bowl for a great view of the field or lay out on the grassy lawn behind the outfield.

Another show in town, FC Dallas, is a big-time soccer team with a long and storied past. Featuring an international cast of both developing and established players, FCD is a perennial playoff contender McKennie entertaining supporters at their home pitch, Toyota Stadium.

Want to catch a game? The RoughRiders’ regular season runs from May through September, while FC Dallas plays from April through October.

You Can Savor First-Rate Outdoor Dining

Mouthwatering barbecue, delectable sushi, and everything in between. Frisco’s dining scene is truly top shelf, and you can taste much of it for yourself at the many restaurants in town with patios. Proudly serving “new American” fare, Sidecar Social is a sports lounge and eatery located at The Star in Frisco with plenty of outdoor seating options.

To sink your teeth into the creations of some of DFW’s favorite food trucks, head to the Frisco Rail Yard. Find your dish of choice and order a draught beer or a cocktail from the on-site bar, then settle into one of the many picnic tables spread throughout the park. Just down Main Street, the cozy patio at Pizzeria Testa is just the place to enjoy traditional red and white pies topped with ingredients like spianata, mozzarella di bufala, and calabrese sausage.

It goes without saying that there are many more restaurants in Frisco with outdoor patios. See all the other bars and eateries here.

Frisco is Full of Unique Family-Friendly Attractions

Wander into a video gamer’s paradise, get an up-close look at vintage trains, and visit a city run by kids. These are some of the adventures that await at Frisco’s many family-friendly attractions. Explore the history, and development, of gaming consoles at the National Videogame Museum (NVM). The museum houses more than 100,000 artifacts, including the 1972 Magnavox Odyssey, the very first of its kind. Much more than a museum, NVM is also a retro arcade. Feel like a kid again as you spend the day playing your old favorites.

If you, or any of your kids, are train enthusiasts, a stop by the Museum of the American Railroad is a must. Embark on a walking tour to see the museum’s collection of rolling stock and hear all about the history and technology of railroading from your guide. Then check out TrainTopia, a miniature world showcasing the topography of Arizona, New Mexico, and even all the way to northeast Texas that includes running model trains. To give your youngsters the feeling of being a grownup, head to KidZania. This immersive city allows kids to earn, spend, and invest currency (called kidZos), all while learning about various professions and cooperating with others their age.

Finally, inspire your child’s inner artist as you admire the more than 40 works at the Texas Sculpture Garden. You can visit the vast outdoor exhibit from dawn to dusk, while the indoor exhibits are open on weekdays.

There are many more kid-approved adventures that await in Frisco, so gather your family and create your own memories here this summer.

Endless Trails & Scenic Golf Courses Make It Easy to Get Outdoors

Frisco may reside among the urban landscape that is the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but that doesn’t mean you can’t escape to nature here. After all, Frisco is known as The City that Plays. Here you’ll find countless parks that have a combined 90 miles of paved and natural trails perfect for hiking, jogging, and biking, such as the Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt and the Ranger Loop in the Northeast Community Park.

You’ll want to bring your golf clubs as well, as this destination has some of the best courses in North Texas. Play a round at the Fazio Course, the 18-hole championship course connected to The Westin Dallas Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa and designed by Tom Fazio himself. Play one of the two courses designed by Gil Hanse at PGA Frisco, Fields Ranch East and Fields Ranch West, or appreciate abundant views of Lewisville Lake as you tee off at Frisco Lakes Golf Club. Frisco’s two other courses, Plantation Golf Club and The Trails of Frisco Golf Club, afford idyllic settings for your next round as well. With so many courses to play, you could make your entire stay here about hitting the links.

Ready for your next summer getaway? Look no further than Frisco, home of family-friendly fun, high-end hotels, professional sports teams, and an endless number of ways to celebrate the season. Plan your visit here.
